Planters First Bank is proud to announce the 2021-2022 November Teacher Spotlight for Pulaski County Schools. This spotlight program is held in conjunction with the Pulaski County School System through their nomination and directional process on choosing the educator for the monthly spotlight that will run from September through April of each school year.
Congratulations, Carrie Burnham, for being selected as this month’s Teacher Spotlight!
Carrie Burnham is a Reading Intervention Connections Teacher at Pulaski County Middle School. At Armstrong Atlantic State University, she received her bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education in 2010. She continued her quest to pursue higher education by receiving her master's degree in Middle Grades Education (2014) and her Specialist's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from Piedmont College. Mrs. Burnham is certified to teach Middle Grades English Language Arts, Middle Grades Reading, Middle Grades Science, Middle Grades Social Studies, and English as a Second Language to students.
Last school year, Mrs. Burnham was chosen as Teacher of the Year for Pulaski County Middle School. During pre-planning of the school current year, it was announced that Mrs. Burnham had been chosen as the system Teacher of the Year for Pulaski County Schools. She began teaching in 2011 and is currently in her 10th year in education. Five of those years have been in Pulaski County, at Pulaski County Middle School. She has taught middle grades English Language Arts and science. Currently, she is the Reading Intervention Connections Teacher for grades 6-8. Mrs. Burnham works with approximately 70 students to improve their reading skills in grades 6-8 each day. In addition, she helps with local testing, is an RTI (Response to Intervention) teacher, is the Student Council co-chair, and serves on the Leadership Team at Pulaski County Middle School. Because her position is funded through the L4GA grant, she also serves on their committee. Mrs. Burnham is dedicated, works diligently to build relationships with her students, and is a true Teacher Leader. As a teacher, Carrie feels that "There is no greater contribution or accomplishment than the opportunity to have a positive impact on a student's life."
Mrs. Burnham, a Hawkinsville native, and former HHS cheerleader has been married to her husband, Blake Burnham, for 11 years. Together they have three children: Keslie (7) in 2nd grade, Emmie (6) in 1st grade, and Branson (4) in Pre-K. They live in Dodge County. The family enjoys camping together during school breaks.
