Planters First Bank is proud to announce the 2022-2023 November School Administration Spotlight for Pulaski County Schools. This spotlight program is held in conjunction with the Pulaski County School System through their nomination and directional process on choosing the educator for the monthly spotlight that will run from September through April of each school year.
Congratulations, David Coffey, for being selected as this month’s spotlight!
David Coffey is the assistant principal at PCES, Head Softball Coach, Head Baseball Coach, and Region 4A Public Secretary. David is a product of the Pulaski County School system, attending Pulaski County School (K-8). After high school, he earned a baseball scholarship at the University of Georgia. After his junior year at UGA, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and chose to pursue a professional baseball career. After retiring from professional baseball, he completed his degree at UGA in 2005 and began his coaching career at Valdosta State University where he received his Master’s Degree in Health and PE. He also completed his Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University in 2019. In 2008, he opened up Mossy Creek Middle School and then opened Veterans High School in 2010, becoming the head baseball coach at each school. During his time at Veterans High School, he was part of 10 region championships (6 in baseball, 3 in softball, and 1 in football). At the helm of the Warhawk baseball program, he led his team to 8 consecutive playoff appearances (2011-2019), including 3 Final Fours and 4 Elite 8’s. His softball teams have also experienced much success, reaching the playoffs in each of his 7 years at the helm, including 2 trips to Columbus for the Championship Finals. Over his 16 years of coaching, Coach Coffey has been blessed to have 41 players sign college and/or professional contracts to further their baseball and softball careers. David has been married to Jacey Coffey for 12 years and they have an 8-year-old son, Easton, who is a joy to them both. Jacey is a nurse practitioner for the med stops in Houston County.
